Up for bid and starting at a dollar is an extremely rare 1920's Astoria (Montblanc) fountain pen and mechanical pencil set in its original box. The Astoria company was founded in 1921 by a former Montblanc company director Georg IIger and his colleagues Herman Dietzel, Siegmund Popper and Wilhelm Frings. The instruments produced in the 1920's were of exceptional quality and with a strong resemblance to those of Montblanc. Astoria produced a range of eyedroppers as well as lever fillers some of them with exquisite continental metal overlays made in Italy specifically for Astoria. By the 1930's Astoria encountered financial difficulties and was taken over by Montblanc in 1932, with Montblanc managing the company until 1936.
