This is for an interesting Victorian white metal medal attached to an Irish patriotic ribbon. The medal was made for the Blackburn Election in 1868 a By-Election held in England which was a rare double-by-election caused when the General Election of the Boroughs two Conservative MP's were nullified. Their sons won the By-Election, but the result led to fighting in Blackburn and was denounced by the Liberal Party as a "farce". The medal has the names the two candidates JC Potter and MJ Fielden along with phrase 'The Hour is Come and the Man'. The reverse reads 'Civil & Religious Liberty, Justice to Ireland, Peace, Law, Order'. It is in excellent condition with no damage to it anywhere and it measures 37mm (1.5") in diameter.
